SunMaxx Solar Installs Solar Thermal System At Brightly Farms in Hamlin, NY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 28, 2012 – Binghamton, NY – SunMaxx Solar, a leading, vertically integrated manufacturer of solar thermal systems and components, is pleased to announce the installation of a solar thermal system at Brightly Farms. The project was contracted by Matt Beres at Simply Solar Systems who designed and installed the system after a faulty wood and fuel oil heating system burned the vegetable farm's repair shop to the ground in the fall of 2010. When Brightly Farms' new shop was being designed, a key component was the heating system. Simply Solar Systems approached Brightly Farms with the option of adding a solar thermal system from SunMaxx Solar to supplement their heating and hot water needs. The farm chose radiant floor heating throughout the entire concrete floor of the 10,400 sq. ft. building. Brightly Farms was pleased to purchase a SunMaxx Solar drainback system from Simply Solar Systems that would supply 100% of their hot water needs and about 70% of their heating needs. The system is composed of an 822 gallon non-pressurized storage tank with two heat exchangers: (2) 200' coils for the radiant floor and (1) 100' coil for the hot water. The drainback system was plumbed into the heating system using copper, plumbed into the domestic hot water using Pex, and plumbed into the solar collectors using Aquatherm piping. The solar collectors used were the VHP-30's (Vacuum Heat Pipe, 30 Tube). Fourteen collectors in total were used in this job to maximize efficiency of the system. Matt Beres of Simply Solar Systems comments, “The solar thermal system is fully installed, working great, and Brightly Farms couldn't be happier that they no longer need to rely on fossil fuels for heat, but instead harness the power of the sun, thanks to SunMaxx Solar's industry leading products and design assistance!” Located in Hamlin, NY, Brightly Farms cultivates a wide array of vegetation including apples, pumpkins, cabbage, and melons. SunMaxx Solar is proud to announce that the installation by Simply Solar Systems using SunMaxx Solar products on the farm's property is greatly reducing the carbon footprint of the farm, further aiding in reaching its agricultural green energy initiatives. Adam Farrell, CEO of SunMaxx Solar comments, “We are thrilled that this successful installation will help Brightly Farms harvest crops with the power of Solar Energy. The trend of solar power sprouting up across the nation’s farms is emblematic of the connection between the earth, economy, SunMaxx Solar, and through the partnership of Simply Solar Systems, who was the perfect spokesperson for the job.” SunMaxx Solar will continue to develop and help procure the installation of solar thermal systems at farmsteads, plantations, ranches and agricultural estates across the nation. SunMaxx Solar aims to build a sustainable future for our global community. SunMaxx Solar Installs Solar Thermal System at Ft. Hood
In the Summer of 2011, SunMaxx Solar in conjunction with Johnson Controls and Intelligent Green Solutions (IGS) completed the installation of a Solar Thermal System at Fort Hood, one of the world's largest Military bases located in Killeen, Texas. A total of 93 TitanPowerPlus SU2 series flat plate collectors were installed across five buildings, in addition to solar pumping stations and storage tanks. Each building was also outfitted with a custom ballasted drain‐back mounting system designed specifically for the US Military. This solar thermal system was installed for a domestic hot water heating system, which will pre‐heat water for five of Fort Hood’s dining facilities as well as a large pool collector installation. These buildings, in total, spanned over 94,000 square feet of Fort Hood's campus. The system was completely installed and commissioned during the Summer of 2011. The cost of the project totaled ~$450,000. The solar system was created to offset natural gas consumption with clean, renewable solar energy. The system will effectively function as a pre-heater, with the existing fossil fuel heaters meeting any load not served by solar energy. The amount of potential energy savings was approx. 50% of their loads. The installation, which was a custom design outfitted specifically for the military, was part of an energy conservation program to help reduce Fort Hood’s carbon footprint. This was also a pilot study to see the effectiveness of using solar thermal on the base, which covers a total of 340 square miles in central Texas. Summary of Fractional Energy Savings for each building is below. This figure shows the percentage of energy that can be saved using a solar thermal system as opposed to a conventional heating system. Building 1 = 22% Building 2 = 28.4% Building 3 = 22.9% Building 4 = 31.3% Building 5 = 31.7% Pool = 50% System Efficiency Results: Building 1 = 66% Building 2 = 63.3% Building 3 = 67.9% Building 4 = 70% Building 5 = 40.9% Facility Sizes: Five buildings 30, 20, 15, 10 and 18 panels
