Huron Campus Solar Hot Water System Installation In Endicott NY

Intelligent Green Solutions recently completed installation of a solar hot water system on the Huron Campus, the commercial building overseen and managed by Huron Real Estate Associates in Endicott, NY. The new solar hot water system features 10 TitanPower-ALH32HP flat plate solar collectors from SunMaxx Solar, as well mounting hardware, a solar storage tank, solar pump station and controllers – all from SunMaxx Solar as well.

Coopers Cave Ale Company Solar Hot Water System

For Coopers Cave Ale Co., hot water is doubly essential. The Glens Falls operation offers as many as a dozen beers and ales at a time, brews up to 20 in a year, and includes a restaurant that seats up to 120. Brewing requires 80,000 gallons of water annually at 150 degrees for cleaning boiling pots, fermenters, racking equipment and the bottling system. The restaurant consumes 200,000 gallons annually at the same temperature, in part because its dishwasher runs 11 hours a day. Ten solar collectors share space with the roof garden, feeding a 325-gallon holding tank downstairs. Inside the tank, a solar-heated mixture of water and glycol flows through the coils of a heat exchanger, continuously heating water in a separate coil. Water enters the building through two pipes under the sidewalk at 50 degrees year-round, and the solar hot water system preheats the water before it enters an electric water heater that slightly boosts the temperature for use.

SunMaxx Installs Solar Thermal System At Brightly Farms in Hamlin, NY

The project was contracted by Matt Beres at Simply Solar Systems who designed and installed the system after a faulty wood and fuel oil heating system burned the vegetable farm’s repair shop to the ground in the fall of 2010. When Brightly Farms’ new shop was being designed, a key component was the heating system. Simply Solar Systems approached Brightly Farms with the option of adding a solar thermal system from SunMaxx Solar to supplement their heating and hot water needs. The farm chose radiant floor heating throughout the entire concrete floor of the 10,400 sq. ft. building. Brightly Farms was pleased to purchase a SunMaxx Solar drainback system from Simply Solar Systems that would supply 100% of their hot water needs and about 70% of their heating needs. The system is composed of an 822 gallon non-pressurized storage tank with two heat exchangers: (2) 200′ coils for the radiant floor and (1) 100′ coil for the hot water. The drainback system was plumbed into the heating system using copper, plumbed into the domestic hot water using Pex, and plumbed into the solar collectors using Aquatherm piping. The solar collectors used were the VHP-30′s (Vacuum Heat Pipe, 30 Tube). Fourteen collectors in total were used in this job to maximize efficiency of the system. Located in Hamlin, NY, Brightly Farms cultivates a wide array of vegetation including apples, pumpkins, cabbage, and melons.
